According to Thomas A. Kempis, Obedience means listening with an open heart to those in authority. It does not mean going against your conscience or acting blindly to every whim of those in command. On the contrary, it asks all sides involved to be conscious of their responsibility to discern good will through dialogue, listening, and mutual respect. It was through his obedience to the good will that we find humanity’s redemption. It is through our obedience that we grow in holiness and walk in the Spirit.
