J.C. Maxwell states that “Authenticity” is the new standard of leadership. It means that we are truly who we are and who we say we are going to be. We must be humble and we must constantly be in a place of learning to improve ourselves to strive to be the person we are meant to be. We must be mindfully aware of each learning and each person we are mentoring, teaching, leading. We must be willing to be misunderstood and to be lonely. To be lonely at the top means to do the right thing even when others do not agree with you. You must be true to your own values and beliefs when those values and beliefs may not be very popular to the general society you are leading. You must most definitely be true to yourself so that you are true to those you are leading. To be “Authentic” is to be a role model for those you are leading.
