Terry Small posted an inspiring article on the importance of empathy. He stated that an empathetic act of kindness helps not only the person receiving the empathy but also helps the empathetic people. He said that studies have found that the person who shows empathy will heal any disease physically.
I have found this to be true as well. In my counselling, when a person was asked to help another, the person showing empathy slowly was stronger and happier than before showing empathy. As a guidance Counsellor, I was fortunate to be able to help a lot of students by empathetic listening and guidance.
I also noticed that I was more energetic and enthusiastic about my career in education than some of my colleagues. So, I am grateful to have become a mentor and guidance Counsellor.
