Today on Minute with Maxwell, his word of the day was “Listening” which is one of my favourite words. As a mentor, Counsellor, mother and grandmother, I know how crucial it is to truly “listen” to those we encounter daily. Covey says, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” I believe people crave to be really heard, to be understood, and to feel empowered by someone who truly listens and empathizes with their thoughts. In today’s world of social media, who practices truly listening to others or to themselves? I have always taught my students that to listen is one of the most important skills we can teach besides reading, writing and talking. Maxwell says that leaders listen, learn and then lead. Only after we listen and learn are we qualified to lead. I challenge you, “Listen today.”
