Bob Larcher posted an article on LinkedIn about the difference between leaders influencing their people or inspiring them.
I personally agree with him when he says he prefers the word “inspire” rather than “influence”.
When I teach, or provide training or mentor, my desire is to inspire them. I challenge my people to find the answers to their questions, no matter what age. It is amazing how their eyes light up when they themselves discover the answers. It is always a look of pride and joy.
When we inspire our people, we empower them to feel part of the team, to have a role in how well we as a team do. It is generally when team members don’t know their responsibility, that they’re less motivated and less productive.
So, let us “inspire” our people as leaders.
