Great leaders have a three step process of leading. They listen, they learn, and then they lead. One of the most challenging skills of all human beings is to be a “Great Listener.” In our schools we teach our students how to read, how to write and how to do math. When do we teach them how to truly be an authentic “Listener?” Stephen Covey considered Listening as one of the 7 habits of highly effective people. He states, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” John Maxwell says that we must walk slowly through the crowd and listen to them. The only way to get information about your people is by truly giving them a listening ear. Great leaders “LISTEN.”
