Upon listening to Minute With Maxwell, I was reminded of how important it is for us to begin a fresh slate daily. Maxwell said that we don’t have to wait until New Years to start something we want to start. He reminds us that each day we can start whatever it is that we want to start anew.
This is true for all of us. I remember telling students that whatever mistakes they made today, tomorrow is a new day and we start with a clean slate. That was so encouraging and hopeful for students who came to school not feeling very positive about learning. So many of our “at risk” students don’t have a positive feeling about learning, about themselves, and about their strengths. Too many of them have been reminded daily, not only at school, but also in their homes that they are different, possibly not successful at learning. However, it is our responsibility as educators to give them courage and to remind them of their strengths and possibilities daily!
