What does it mean to be approachable? The Oxford Dictionary says “approachable” means friendly, easy to talk to. Maxwell says it means you make others feel welcomed, you smile, make eye contact, to be accessible and ready for others to come to you when they need to. I believe educators and leaders must be approachable, accessible. After all, we are guiding, coaching, training the folks by empowering them to believe it’s okay not to be perfect, to learn daily. I aim to be “approachable” daily, not only to those I mentor and teach but also to those whom I encounter daily.
