Part 3 of Maxwell’s Growth Practices is about listening. He admonishes us to listen daily to broaden our perspectives. He says he began to ask his employees, “What’s it like to be on the other side of me?” Asking good questions to see others as they are is not only enlightening but also most effective for trust and team building. Maxwell says, “I’ve never learned by talking. I have learned by listening. If you’re going to lead others, you’ve got to listen.” Truly listening has always been my goal as a guidance Counsellor, mother, friend and in any work relationship. And, I have truly been blessed with continually growing and learning. One of the most sincere forms of respect is to actually listen to what someone has to say.
