At a basic level, the term EMPOWERMENT simply means becoming powerful.
Building personal empowerment involves reflecting on ones personal values, skills and goals as well as being prepared to adjust ones behaviour in order to achieve said goals. If you are an individual who is empowered, it will also have an empowering impact of those who surround you.
Qualities of an EMPOWERED person:
- Open to possibilities;
- Focuses on who they are;
- Focuses on who they want to be;
- Runs his/her own race;
- Trusts him/herself;
- Networks with other people;
- Loves what he/she does;
- Holds him/herself gracefully; and
- Embraces imperfect moments.
"You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it."
- Maya Angelou, American Poet
