Today I was truly inspired by the poem that Amanda Gordon recited at US presidential inauguration this week. Her poem, The Hill We Climb was filled with hope, promise, and a reminder not only of the hope in the future but also our troubled and hard moments of the past.
The hill we climb
If only we dare
It’s because being American is more than a
pride we inherit,
It’s the past we step into
And how we repair it.
Our present state of affairs around the world is filled with suffering and fear of a pandemic, yes, but also of memories and grief of past atrocities. We as a human race must be brave and not only repair the past indiscretions but prevent those to repeat themselves in our future.
