A book that changed my life is Braving The Wilderness by Brene Brown. It took me about 6 months to read because I kept on learning so much about myself in each chapter. However, this book allowed me to be brave enough to let go of fears and insecurities I had about my own independence.
I had been contracting work for someone who actually was emotionally abusive. I thought that I owed this person my servitude since I had been taught about the training I was doing by her. Therefore, I was being a slave to her.
I realized I needed to leave this situation and move on but it took me a year to get the courage to do so. In the end, I wrote this person a thank you letter and told her that I would no longer be a part of her company. I felt an enormous relief once I sent her my farewell letter. I promised never to give workshops on her topic again and thanked her for the years of collaboration.
I have now created my own work on Mindful Leadership and am loving my new journey. I am most grateful to Brene Brown whose books inspire me to be a life-long learner and to have the courage to make difficult decisions for myself and my family.
