I love the story of the Flock of geese heading south for the winter flying in a V formation. This formation helps the geese flock fly 71% farther than if each bird flew alone. As the lead goose gets tired he will rotate to the back of the V and allow another goose to take the lead position. The geese in the back honk to encourage those in front. Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it immediately feels the resistance of trying to fly alone and quickly gets back into formation. Finally when one goose gets sick or is wounded and falls out of formation, two geese will follow it and help and protect it and remain with it until its better or dies and then the 2 will join their group or form a new group. This is synergy. It is achieved when 2 or more people work together to create a better solution than either could alone. It’s not your way or my way but a better way, a higher way.
ACTIVITY:
Name some synergistic relationships in nature, in your school and in your home (e.g. Sequoia trees and the flight formation of geese both demonstrate synergistic relationships in nature).
