Little Book of Stars

The Little Book of Stars is a book of 52 relaxation stories for under 5’s. Marneta states that, “Social stories are a wonderful way for children to explore learning and mindfulness. Children love to tell stories, role-play stories and teach others what they learn from stories. Marneta has captured the creativity at the heart of childhood with imagery and stories to guide mindful meditation in children. Research supports that mindful meditation calms the brain, inspires creativity and enhances cognitive and social emotional skills.

Little Book of Stars is a gift of meditations children can do anytime, anywhere to get entered, experience peace and build a calmer inner life. With visual concepts such as the Magic Paint Brush, Superheroes and the Time Travel Machine, Marneta provides the words and actions needed to practice mindfulness as early as 5 years of age. The Little Book of Stars provides a beautiful and meaningful way for parents to connect with their children and for teachers to incorporate calming skills in the school day.”

Sample Mindful Meditation:

Beautiful Star

I am a beautiful star. I think about what makes me beautiful.

I have beautiful eyes that shine so bright. I have a beautiful smile that makes people happy. I have a beautiful heart that is kind and loving.

What makes you beautiful?

Close your eyes and stay nice and still. Just pretend you are smelling a beautiful flower. Hold the flower and take in a deep breath and smell the flower.

Can you smell it? Try that again. Breathe in and smell the beautiful flower and breathe out slowly.

Do you feel like a beautiful star? Can you feel your beautiful face? Can you feel your beautiful body? Can you feel your beautiful heart?

Now stay as still as you can and thing about being a

Smiling star. Who would you like to give your smile to?

Say out loud, “I am a beautiful star, I am a beautiful star.” Now say it quietly, “I am a beautiful star, I am a beautiful star.” Now whisper, “I am a beautiful star, I am a beautiful star.”

ACTIVITIES:

Set the scene by playing some soft music. The affirmation at the end of each meditation is intended for the adult to use as a means of focusing attention and creating an atmosphere conducive to the children’s concentration. Also, if you wish, after the meditation, you may discuss what they experienced, asking them to describe what they saw and experienced and how they felt through discussion or on paper or through dance and movement. Have fun!
